Building an efficient and aesthetically pleasing city layout in Forge of Empires can enhance your gaming experience and strategic advantage. Whether you’re new to the game or a seasoned player looking to optimize your city further, understanding the principles of city planning is crucial. In this article, we will give you essential tips and strategies to help you create a well-organized and functional layout, for an efficiently growing city.

PLAN AHEAD

Planning is key. Make sure that all your buildings needing a road connection are connected to the road network. Plan your roads strategically to minimize the number of roads needed. This will free up more space for buildings while maintaining efficient connectivity. By planning ahead, you’ll create a solid foundation for your city, making it easier to manage, expand, and optimize as you progress through the game. Before placing buildings, make a rough sketch or use a city planner tool to visualize your layout.

ROAD MANAGEMENT

City space is limited. It is arguably the most precious resource in Forge of Empires. You can save City space by making sure your City only has relevant buildings and uses as few roads as possible. To achieve this, especially in smaller cities, it might make sense to place the Town Hall in the middle of your city. This way you can connect a lot of buildings using several shorter roads that start from your Town Hall. For optimal use of space, try to keep your roads straight as much as possible. By placing your roads perpendicularly without curving them, you can save space as well. Remember, that you only need one tile next to a building for it to be considered connected to a road. You can place small buildings along the roads and have a bigger one next to them, while only connecting them with one tile of road. This saves not only space, but also roads.

SORT OUT

Do not shy away from regularly pruning your City of older, weaker, or no longer relevant buildings. By doing so, you might be able to free enough space to create a road-free area for future buildings and your Quest needs. Often our newer Event buildings do not require a road connection and can be tucked away in such a free spot to make your City tidier and even more efficient.

SYNERGY

In Forge of Empires, synergy between buildings is not achieved by placing buildings right next to each other but simply by placing them somewhere in your city. The only exception is Chain Buildings that provide additional bonuses for being placed together. You will always find out from the building tooltip if it comes in such chain, or set, what bonuses it can provide for being placed next to other unique buildings from the set.

However, while it largely doesn’t matter for other buildings whether they are placed together, you can use buildings strategically to boost one another. One example of such synergy would be The Blue Galaxy. This one doubles the collected resources produced by your first buildings collected except military and great buildings. Also, it produces medals every 24 hours.  Some other synergy buildings might have a temporary benefit. One example is the Cobalt Blue Lagoon. This building one collected, grants 2 charges of boosting your next collections of other buildings by 100%. After 5 collections, this building will turn into a simple decoration that does not provide any other bonuses except for Happiness for your citizens.

EVENTS

Familiarize yourself with Event prize buildings and the bonuses they offer to optimize your city building strategy. By understanding the unique benefits these buildings provide, you can more effectively incorporate them into your cities to enhance productivity, boost resources, and gain strategic advantages. We suggest analyzing which stats and production need boosting for your current strategy. While in the first stages of City building, you might need more Coins and Supplies and should place buildings that benefit that, your needs will change along with your game progress. As your power grows, you might find yourself needing to boost specific stats of your units in different features to achieve success. And our Event prize buildings will provide you with just that!

Creating a well-organized and efficient city layout in Forge of Empires is both an art and a strategy that can significantly impact your gameplay experience. By planning ahead, optimizing space, utilizing road efficiency, grouping similar buildings, focusing on production, and routinely reevaluating your layout, you can build a city that supports your growth and success. The key is to remain flexible and adapt your strategies as you progress through the game. So, take these tips, start planning, and watch your city flourish in Forge of Empires. Happy building!
